SCFL DIVISION ONE MATCH, SATURDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER

CHUFC 1 - 1 ARUNDEL
GOAL: ASHER MALIKI

I was pleased that we were able to follow up our good performance against Oakwood with something similar against Arundel. We perhaps didn’t settle quite as quickly as I would have liked but we were competitive and the lack of an early technical level was more than being compensated for by the team's work rate. At a point where the visitors were marginally better they scored but our reaction to conceding was excellent. We got to grips in midfield and became difficult to play against and although our equaliser was a gift I thought going into the break level was just about deserved.

Our second half was excellent. We maintained the midfield control and defensively were well organised and only called into action rarely. With possession now very much in our favour we were playing most of the game in our attacking third of the pitch and created several presentable chances. Still, with our one failing being our finishing we were unable to score what I thought would have been a deserved winner. If we continue playing like this and find those small improvements we will win many games but that’s the message to the players as the season starts to take shape.
