£1219 RAISED AT ANNUAL CHARITY MATCH - SUNDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER 2024

On Sunday 1st September, Chessington & Hook United FC held the 2nd annual charity match in honour of their dear friend, Steve Parsons, who sadly passed away in July 2022. Steve volunteered at Chalky Lane for 17 years on and off the pitch. Over the years he took on football coaching and manager roles for both youth and senior teams and played a huge part in fundraising for the club. In recent years, Steve took on more of a supporter role and often came up to watch the first team, which regularly included some of the boys he had coached and managed during their youth.

CHUFC’s U18 Manager, Morgan Ellis, and Steve's son, Charlie, wanted to honour Steve’s memory with a charity match to bring old friends together, to raise much-needed funds for Cancer Research as they did in 2023. Friends, ex-players, fellow coaches, family, and some of the youth team, played a memorable and highly entertaining game at Chalky Lane last Sunday. The players and the large crowd that came to remember Steve had a very enjoyable day in the company of old friends.

Funds raised from entry donations, the Raffle, Tombola, £1 in a bucket, Auction and sale of Donuts raised £1219 plus the generous donations that have come in via the Just Giving page that Steve's wife Linda set up last year. The total currently stands at £1729 - just under £300 short of their target of £2000.

None of this would be possible without the team of fundraising volunteers at Chessington & Hook for which we send a huge thank you too, and of course, the players and match officials.

We hope to do it again next year. Thank you all for remembering Steve.
