CHUFC 2 - 1 COPTHORNE
Goal Scorers: Bailey Ellis, Kai Neil-Gray
I was really pleased with our start to the game. We were on the front foot, playing most of the game in the top third and taking all the good aspects from our previous two games into this. The only thing missing was a bit of quality with our last phases of play, but I expected that to come. After 10 minutes though I felt it turned into a battle and that suited Copthorne. We suddenly became intent on forcing the play and the scrappy nature of the game had allowed them back in and they became as much a threat to us as we were to them.
The game was effectively about 10 minutes of play, 5 immediately before the half and 5 after the restart. As the break approached and with the half-time chat sorted in my mind we scored a good goal following good work from Martin Smith and a fine finish from Bailey Ellis. Within a couple of minutes, the opposing goalkeeper had been sent off for pushing Boe on the back of the head, and with almost the final action of the half we doubled our lead with a solid strike from Kai.
At half-time we spoke about game management and ensuring Copthorne had nothing to play for at the back end of the game but that went out of the window within 2 minutes of the restart. We were found out far too easily defensively and conceded our usual soft goal. We were grateful immediately afterward when Andrew made a fine save to keep our lead. We saw it through, though, despite Martin Smith seeing red. I guess it was all about the result, so despite not being great or controlling the game as I expected, it was another win and an important three points.
