REIGATE PRIORY 3 - 4 CHUFC
Goals: John Fouracre, Asher Maliki, Kai Neil-Gray, Archie Morgan
Obviously, on the back end of a 4 game-losing run, this was all about the result and we got that, so I felt that was important for the group irrespective of the performance.
We definitely deserved to win and for a lot of the game, we were much the better side and should have turned that into a more comfortable winning margin but didn’t and ended up with an unnecessary nervy finish to the game.
As usual of late we started poorly and conceded in the opening minutes and still hadn’t sorted ourselves out when Reigate missed another very presentable chance. It's something that is happening too often and I need to address that if we are to avoid putting ourselves under pressure from the start. Our response was excellent and we equalised on the 15-minute mark and then probably played the most fluently that we have for several weeks scoring twice more and denying our hosts any opportunities at all.
Our usual words were shared at half-time and we got our usual response. It was poor and we looked all over the place. Luckily we didn’t concede and settled again but didn’t quite hit the same heights that we did in the first half. We had our moments, and certain phases looked good, but they were intertwined with some average play that gave Reigate some encouragement when they should have been out of the game.
When they got a goal back with 20 to go I was concerned and Sang did have to make a smart save to keep us level but their pressure wasn’t relentless and we did ok most of the time. A gifted goal in the last 10 minutes gave us the two-goal cushion which proved crucial as we conceded again late on to give a scoreline that made the game seem a lot closer than it was for long periods.
Our focus is to get back on a winning run which won't be easy particularly as our next 2 games are against teams in the top 6 but if we can be consistent and cut out the occasional bad spells we have in games, we have every chance .
